Offer Description
Are you an expert in computational social science or computer science? Do you specialize in ML or LLMs, software development, and innovative online experiments? Are you interested in social media, their recommendation algorithms, polarization, and misinformation?
We invite applications for the position of a post-doctoral researcher at the Centre of Excellence in Social Sciences, University of Warsaw for the research project “NEWSUSE: Incentivizing Citizen Exposure to Quality News Online: Framework and Tools” directed by Prof. Magdalena Wojcieszak and funded by the European Research Council (ERC Consolidator Grant).
The project explores how to incentivize exposure to quality and verified political news and information online to minimize polarization, misinformation, extremism, etc. The project includes experiments on mock platforms, social media field experiments, and computer and data science methods. The project may also entail algorithmic audits of social media platforms using automated sock puppets and prompt engineering. You will have the opportunity to shape the specific questions and designs, and to envision and implement innovative technological solutions to increase the external validity of these designs.
Expected date of commencement of work and employment period:
36 months, starting Fall 2025 or winter 2026 (flexible starting date)
Remuneration:
PLN 14,975 gross/monthly (including basic salary and supplementary salary), plus seniority bonus, plus 13th (additional) salary

Basic responsibilities and obligations:
- Implementation of the research project in collaboration with the PI and team members.
- Co-designing and programming innovative experiments using web-based data;
- Working on or assisting in training / development / use of automated classifications (NLP, Large Language Models);
- Analyzing and visualizing data, applying statistical models to test hypotheses on large data sets;
- Drafting and editing articles for publication in high-impact journals and for international conferences;
- Writing journalistic texts popularising the results of the research carried out;
- Preparing presentations of the results of the analyses carried out, including the creation of visualisations of the research results;
- Presenting research results at international conferences and academic meetings.
Fulfilment of the requirements set out in Article 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571, consolidated text)
• PhD or completed dissertation (with a scheduled defence effective before the date of employment)
Degree in social sciences (e.g. communication, political science, computational social science, economics) or computer sciences (e.g. computer science, information science, data science)
• Experience in quantitative research methods (e.g. analysis of survey, experimental, and online behavioural data using advanced models)
• Computational skills - experience of working in R, Python or other programming languages;
• Experience in designing, conducting and analysing complex research projects that combine self-report (experiments/surveys) with digital trace data (e.g. tracking data);
• Experience in addressing relevant social science questions using computational methods;
• Good spoken and written English;
• Experience in analysing survey or experimental data and visualising results

- Stage I - formal evaluation of documents,

Stage V - adjudication of the competition and announcement of results.
Anticipated date of communicating the outcome: 30 September 2025 r.
Candidates will be notified of the results of the competition by e-mail.
