  • Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference (Oct 9–10, NYU): Scholars at Risk (SAR) will host a regional meeting on protecting scholars and academic freedom, launching the Free to Think 2025 report, and celebrating SAR’s 25th anniversary.
  • International Engagement: SAR staff will present at the EAIE Conference in Sweden (Sept 9–12).
  • Job Opening: SAR seeks a research scientist/program officer for North America.
  • Scholars Seeking Hosts: At-risk scholars from Cameroon (philosophy), Palestine (biostatistics), and Yemen (climate change) are urgently seeking academic placements.
  • Advocacy in Southeast Asia: Regional colloquium in Indonesia reaffirmed the Surabaya Principles on academic freedom and condemned recent crackdowns.
  • Inspireurope+ Project: Concluded in August 2025; partners will continue supporting researchers at risk in Europe.

    • Network of Concerned Historians released its 31st annual report on global democratic backsliding.
    • Young Academy Ireland is recruiting early-career researchers (deadline Sept 26, 2025).
    • UN Human Rights Council will appoint a new Special Rapporteur for Human Rights Defenders in March 2026.
