DESY

DESY is one of the world’s leading research centres for photon science, particle and astroparticle physics as well as accelerator physics. More than 2400 employees work at our two locations Hamburg and Zeuthen in science, technology and administration.

Accelerator research at DESY is being sustainably expanded within the framework of the Helmholtz ARD programme. The Helmholtz ARD programme focusses on the establishment and coordinated research for future accelerators throughout Germany. DESY concentrates on conventional and plasma-based electron accelerators with applications for photon science, particle physics and atto-second technologies. In this context, a new infrastructure for the development and construction of high-performance lasers with very high peak power of up to petawatts and high average powers of up to several tens of kilowatts will be established. For this purpose, a scientist is sought as technical coordinator to oversee the installaion and operation of the new lab.

The position

Technical coordination of complex setups for plasma accelerator science and research on high intensity and high average power lasersOversight of the implementation of laboratory and work safety regulationsPlanning of personnel and financial budgets for the installation and operation of the infrastructuresConduction of scientific work in the field of laser plasma acceleration

Requirements

University degree in physics or equivalentGood knowledge in laser, plasma and accelerator physicsGood knowledge in project coordinationCertification of specialized knowledge in radiation and laser safetyExperience in the planning and setup of laboratory infrastructure

Salary and benefits are commensurate with those of public service organisations in Germany. Classification is based upon qualifications and assigned duties.
