The Institute of Physics implements Croatia’s strategic project in the field of research infrastructure: Center for Advanced Laser Techniques. Particular aspect of infrastructure development is based on ultrafast dynamics motivated research, i.e. time-resolved spectroscopy, imaging and diffraction in the fields of physics, chemistry and material science which is accomplished via pump-probe methods by ultrafast laser pulses.

We seek a Senior Scientist to be part of an interdisciplinary team to perform and support the application of time-resolved methods to a wide variety of pump-probe techniques. A substantial aspect of this position will be to develop and maintain safe and reliable operation of the laser systems related to ultrafast dynamics research.

Selection process

Applications should contain a CV, a list of publications, a letter of motivation and the names of at least 3 referees.

In accordance with the Laws of the Republic of Croatia, candidates of both genders are welcome to apply. Please submit applications as a single pdf document, in Croatian or in English, by e-mail to natjecaj@ifs.hr, using a reference “SENIOR” in the subject line.

Applicants will be informed on the results of the tender within the legal deadline.

Skills/Qualifications

The candidates should have a PhD in physics or chemistry and substantial postdoctoral and research associate experience, an excellent understanding of femtosecond laser science, ideally with a background in experimental setup development, and research experience in femtosecond science and light-matter interaction. Necessary requirement is a skill and experience in maintaining, operating, and applying ultrafast laser systems. Experimental skills to develop scientific applications and advanced instrumentation for pump-probe techniques. The candidate is expected to possess advanced understanding of abstract concepts, and synthesizing results within current experimental and theoretical frameworks. Ability to work well in a team environment.

Specific Requirements

The successful candidate will develop and conduct collaborative and independent experimental work in the field of pump-probe science. The candidate will be responsible for conceiving, planning, and implementing novel pump-probe instrumentation and techniques.
