National policy on scientific research in Bulgaria is coordinated by the Ministry of Education and Science. Structural unit that supports the coordination of national and European level is Directorate Research. Directorate Research assisted administratively created in 1990 Bulgarian Science Fund. Its creation was one of the first steps associated with the implementation of project finance in the country.

HORIZON 2020 - the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation
Horizon 2020 provides major simplification through a single set of rules. It will combine all research and innovation funding currently provided through the Framework Programmes for Research and Technical Development, the innovation related activities of the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (CIP) and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).

“Erasmus+” - investing in Europe's education, training and youth
Erasmus+ would bring together all the current EU and international schemes for education, training, youth and sport, replacing seven existing programmes with one.
At Community level, the European Union possesses three key funding instruments to support research and innovation: Cohesion policy which is funded by the Structural and Cohesion Funds; Research Framework Program and the Framework Program for Competitiveness and Innovation.
